Thanks to Cristian Roux for sharing this photo today, I’m very pleased to see that backers are starting to receive their books - from the large amount of books I shipped off last week.
There’s plenty more to come too, and I’ll keep you appraised of my progress with OLD MAN RUFUS.
IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!
As of today, I’ve been on this planet for 47 years.
It certainly doesn’t feel that long, I certainly don’t have what I would consider the ‘maturity’ of that age, at least in terms of what society considers that to mean. I’m unmarried, have no kids, and I don’t own a home or a car. I draw talking kangaroo comics, and I build lego.
But I’m reasonably happy with all of that. I am reaching the age where I have some regrets, and I do wish I had at least one child that I could pass on some of my knowledge and skills to, and who might one day like to continue along the path I’ve started.
With some of my pretty heavy health concerns, I’ve had to prepare a will, and with no heirs, I have to consider what will happen with Killeroo… or whether to just have him follow me into the ether.
But…
I’m not done yet.
I’m going to keep making comic books, starting with today’s new book:
(What do you think of that art? It’s my first Killeroo piece in quite a while, and it’s a homage to one of my greatest influences - the mighty Jim Lee).
I’ve always loved that Wolverine piece (from Wolverine #50, which has since been used as a cover in later years) - and the character has always been an inspiration in terms of being largely a loner, with a savage side that comes out in times of crisis.
Plus I homaged Lee with the first crossover book (his classic Captain America /Wolverine /Black Widow cover to Uncanny X-Men #268), so it made sense to pay tribute again with this book.
But this book is largely the work of my pal STUART BLACK, who both wrote and drew this new comic, with a few Killeroo poses embellished with my inks. He smashed this book out for the majority of last year - all 80 pages of it!
I’ve just launched the kickstarter for this today, so if you’d like more information, click here to visit the campaign.
How are things going with you?
I know a lot of folks are doing it tough these days, the cost of living is a killer, it’s tough just to afford a trip to the supermarket.
Hang in there, and reach out to your friends and family if you need some help. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.
Best,
-Daz
