Hi folks!
I wanted to give you an update on a few things I’m working on here at Killeroo HQ.
OLD MAN RUFUS
Ryan is still working diligently on the art for OLD MAN RUFUS, as seen in the pencils above. I’m waiting to hear back on some pages being coloured at present.
I’m still working on the script as well, which I’m getting done in bits and pieces to keep Ryan busy. I tend to write in the classic ‘marvel method’, which would drive a lot of people crazy, but it works for me pretty well and enables me to better match what the artist is delivering.
It’s going a bit slower than I had planned, so the release / shipping date might be pushed back a bit. It’s not something I want to rush though.
DARK TIMES
Matthew, Ignacio and I have been working through the first draft of the script, and I think we’re on the right track. The premise for this book has changed during this process - it’s no longer just a sequel to SEMPER FIDELIS, I’m combining it with the events of THE STONES OF KARANTJIIRINJA and TOWNSHIP MINE, and the previously unfinished story THE HUNTED.
This gives this book a much wider-ranging tone, as it is bringing together story threads that have been running throughout the KILLEROO books I’ve been publishing for the last 15 years (since SCARS).
Because of these structural changes to the story, it will likely be delayed a bit from the anticipated May launch - but hopefully not by too much.

UNNAMED CROSSOVER
There’s another Killeroo crossover that’s been cooking away on the backburner, that I hope to be able to tell you more about in the next newsletter.
KICKSTARTERS TO CHECK OUT!
Full disclosure - I’m involved in running both of these - Check ‘em out!
-
This campaign is running right now (and just reached fully funded), and features the full 12-issue series of this Australian horror series. Serial killers, biker gangs and mature content await you in this 3-volume trade paperback set - wrapped in a new cover by kickstarter favourite ASH MADI.
-
This campaign launches in early March, and is the debut comic of FREEFALL COMICS, a new Australian imprint by Lucas Keim and Brian Kerr. Strong female characters and some crazy action and drama, superbly drawn by Riccardo Faccini.
SUPANOVA - MELBOURNE SHOWGROUNDS - MARCH 5-6
I’ll be attending this event next weekend - I’ll likely be found in the SUPA-STAR area of Artists Alley, but I’m not sure where exactly as they haven’t sent out the venue map as yet. I might also have Stuart Black come along for a day, to sign some copies of the KILLEROO/4HORSEMEN crossover and the accompanying sketchbook.
Also in attendance will be Christopher Eccleston, the first Doctor Who of the new era, which is pretty cool. I got to briefly meet Peter Capaldi at a Supanova a couple of years ago, so it’ll be nice if I get to do the same with the 9th Doctor too.
(Tho to be honest, I’m just as keen to meet Nicholas Hammond - I used to love that old Spider-man TV show as a kid!)
REAL WORLD
It’s been a pretty eventful start to the year for me. My flatmate and I have found a new place to move to, but it’s pretty remote compared to Coburg. On the plus side, it’s a bargain price for (literally) a brand new house, so much so we have to wait about 2 months before moving in - as it’s still being built!
I’ve also made it to the last stage of the interview process for a part-time job in the city. It’s a departure from my previous type of work as a Graphic Designer, but I’m excited for a new change of pace. I also think it will help me with a new sense of purpose, and a new sense of productivity.
It’s one thing to have all the time in the world to make your comics, but it’s another to have LESS time so you have to make the most of it. There’s a real psychology to it.
Thanks again folks!
PS. I’ve become a lot more active on Twitter these days, so follow me at the link below if you’d like to interact more regularly - I do tend to get a bit political though.
